Emergency Shelter

The Torres Community Shelter is the only free, non-faith based, non-profit shelter that serves men, women and families with children in Butte and the surrounding counties. Every night Torres provides a warm meal, a hot shower and safe place to sleep to nearly 160 people.

However, Torres does more than just provide shelter. Each adult works closely with a case manager to develop a step-by-step plan to address barriers and find permanent housing.

Rapid Rehousing

Getting people housed when they've been homeless can be a difficult task. Many of the people we help have evictions, low income and other barriers that make it difficult to find a place to rent.

Our Rapid Rehousing program helps people overcome those barriers. The program can help cover the cost of moving expenses, deposits, past due utility bills and short term rental assistance.

Kids Club

Kids Club is an ongoing activity group for children currently staying at Torres Shelter.

In Kids Club, we serve children from 1 to 17 years of age and currently average 8-12 children per group.  Our flexible structure includes checking in with each child, providing a healthy snack, assisting with homework, and engaging the children in activities which often include art and other projects, reading and games.

We seek to provide a safe, fun and nurturing environment contributing to the development of healthy relationships, positive social skills, emotional intelligence and academic success.  We currently operate on Mondays from 4:30pm-6pm and are always seeking volunteers and interns to enrich our program.

Interns/volunteers are supervised by Mandi Robertson, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  Please contact Mandi at 530.570.1735 if interested or for more information.

Transitional Housing

Established in 2015, Friends House provides transitional housing to men who have demonstrated stability while at Torres, and who are ready to take the step towards self-sufficiency.

Friends House is staffed by an on-site manager who works with residents on the next face of life-skills training. Residences worked together to maintain the grounds and share in household chores.
